Proper procedures for donning (putting on), doffing (taking off), and disposing of disposable FFP2 masks are essential to ensure maximum effectiveness and minimize the risk of contamination. Here are the recommended steps:
Donning (Putting on) Disposable FFP2 Masks:
Wash Hands: Before handling the mask, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.
Inspect the Mask: Check the mask for any visible damage or defects, such as tears or holes. Ensure that the nose clip is intact and the mask appears clean.
Position the Mask: Hold the mask by the ear loops or headbands, and place it over your nose and mouth. Ensure that the nose clip is at the top and the mask covers your chin.
Adjust the Fit: Use both hands to press the nose clip firmly against the bridge of your nose to form a tight seal. Pull the bottom of the mask down over your chin.
Perform Seal Check: Inhale gently to check if the mask seals tightly against your face. If air leaks around the edges, readjust the mask and nose clip for a better fit.
Avoid Touching the Mask: Once the mask is in place, avoid touching the front surface to prevent contamination.
Complete Precautionary Measures: If required, put on any additional personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves or eye protection, before proceeding with your tasks.
Doffing (Taking Off) Disposable FFP2 Masks:
Wash Hands: Again, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before removing the mask.
Avoid Touching the Front: Do not touch the front surface of the mask, as it may be contaminated.
Remove the Mask: Grasp the ear loops or headbands and carefully remove the mask from your face. Avoid touching the potentially contaminated outer surface.
Dispose of the Mask: Immediately discard the used mask in a designated waste bin. Do not leave it lying around or attempt to reuse it.
Wash Hands Again: After removing the mask, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.
Disposal of Disposable FFP2 Masks:
Seal the Mask: If possible, fold the mask in half with the outer surface facing inward to contain any contaminants.
Place in Waste Bin: Dispose of the folded mask in a waste bin designated for medical or hazardous waste. Do not dispose of it in regular trash bins or recycling bins.
Wash Hands: Once again, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer after handling the used mask and before touching any other surfaces.
